The United States has begun withdrawing its military contingent from Lithuania, as the deployment period for more than 1,000 US soldiers stationed there comes to an end. This was confirmed by Lithuanian National Broadcasting, citing reports from news agency BNS.

At present, there is no public information about whether and when the US might begin a new rotation to Lithuania. The issue arises at a concerning time, when security matters related to NATO in the Baltic states are under particularly sharp scrutiny.

Lithuania is one of three Baltic states whose security is supported both by NATO allies' rotational forces and by a permanent battle group led by Germany. The departure of US forces from Lithuania raises questions about the future of the region's defence capabilities.
