Storm Shadow missiles, known for their precision strike capability and range exceeding 250 kilometres, have previously been used by Ukraine in high-profile strikes against key Russian military targets. The weapons were first supplied to Ukraine by the United Kingdom, with France later providing its equivalent variant known as SCALP-EG.
