SportTartu University Maks & Moorits were crowned Estonian basketball champions on Friday, ending an 11-year title drought. The club last won the championship over a decade ago, making the victory particularly significant for both players and fans.
According to head coach Aivar Kuusmaa, the team's success was primarily due to a deep bench and broad roster composition. Kuusmaa emphasised that the high calibre of substitute players enabled the team to maintain high standards in training and matches throughout the season, even in the face of injuries and fatigue.
A deep roster meant that key players could rest when necessary without the team's strength suffering significantly. This strategic approach allowed Tartu to reach the end of the season fresh and ultimately secure the championship title.
