Thousands of people gathered in Tallinn on 24 May for the annual 'Vyshyvanka Unites' festival, a celebration of Ukrainian cultural heritage centered around the traditional embroidered shirt known as the vyshyvanka.

The festival has grown into one of the most attended cultural events of its kind in Estonia, consistently bringing together both the Ukrainian diaspora and local Estonian residents in a shared celebration of identity and community.

In addition to its cultural significance, the event earned recognition as the best integration project of the year in 2024, highlighting its role in bridging communities and fostering social cohesion in Estonia.

The vyshyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian embroidered garment, has become a powerful symbol of Ukrainian national identity — particularly since 2022 — and festivals celebrating it have spread across Europe as part of broader efforts to preserve and promote Ukrainian culture abroad.
