Tallinn Architecture Biennial puts city hall in the spotlight

The eighth Tallinn Architecture Biennial runs from 9 September to 30 November this year. The festival's main programme focuses on the city hall, but the event also extends to Tartu and Kuresaare.

Tallinn is preparing to host the eighth architecture biennial, which opens on 9 September and runs until 30 November 2025. This year, the festival's attention is centred on the city hall – one of Tallinn's most significant and controversial architectural heritage objects.

The festival consists of two parts: a curated main programme and a satellite programme that takes architectural experiences beyond the capital alone. Visitors will be able to experience the biennial's events and exhibitions in both Tartu and Kuresaare, making the festival a truly nationwide undertaking for the first time.

The Tallinn Architecture Biennial is one of the most important architecture festivals in the Baltic region, offering a platform for both local and international architects, designers and urban planners. Selecting the city hall as the festival's central theme provides an opportunity to open a wider public discussion about the future of this monumental building.
