Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced that defence experts' investigation has confirmed that a drone that struck a residential building in the southeastern city of Galaţi on the night of May 29 was of Russian origin. The president publicly posted photos of the drone remains found at the scene.

Romanian specialists concluded that the recovered fragments and components belong to an unmanned aerial vehicle manufactured by Russia. This is a serious incident, as Romania is a NATO member state, and the presence of Russian drones on its territory raises concerns for the security of the entire alliance.

Galaţi is located in southeastern Romania near the Ukrainian border, which is why the region has been repeatedly affected by drones crossing the border in recent months. Previously, NATO allies have expressed concerns about the security of airspace around the Black Sea region, as Russian drones have crossed into Romanian territory on multiple occasions.
