Raasiku slug warrior carries a bucket even to the shop: invasive slugs are under community control

Raasiku resident Teele Kruuse has become a well-known slug warrior in her local community – the woman never leaves home without a small bucket, ready to collect aggressive invasive slugs at any moment. Kruuse told ERR's programme "Terevisioon" that she discovered the invasive species near her garden last year.

According to Kruuse, she immediately began taking action and involved community members in a joint effort to combat the slugs. Consistent and regular manual slug collection has, in her view, already yielded noticeable results – the number of slugs has decreased.

The Portuguese slug is an invasive species originating from Portugal that has spread across Europe and causes significant damage to gardeners. The slug population grows rapidly and they destroy everything in their path in gardens. Experts recommend manual collection as one of the most effective methods for controlling slugs.
