Parliament is currently considering a bill to amend the Nature Conservation Act that would bring significant changes to densely populated areas, including cities, towns and villages. According to the bill, local authorities would gain greater freedom to reduce building restriction zones within their territories.

The current Nature Conservation Act imposes restrictions that make it difficult to construct new buildings in more densely populated areas. The proposed amendment would give local authorities more discretion to adapt building regulations according to the needs and conditions of their local area.

The aim of the amendment is to simplify construction where land use is already dense in character and nature conservation restrictions may be disproportionate compared to the actual environmental conditions. This would enable local authorities to better plan residential development and other construction typical of densely populated areas.
