Lithuania participates in talks on US nuclear arms deployment to Europe

The issue came to the fore after the Financial Times reported that the United States is considering nuclear weapon deployment to additional NATO member states on the European continent.

Kaunas confirmed that Lithuania is an active participant in this matter, taking part in both bilateral consultations and allied discussions. The question is particularly relevant now, as NATO member states are reassessing their collective defence capabilities and deterrence posture in light of threats related to Russia.

Potential expansion of US nuclear weapons in Europe would represent a significant strategic shift for NATO. Currently, US nuclear weapons are based in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Turkey. The involvement of the Baltic states and Eastern European NATO members in such discussions signals growing concern about the security situation in the region.
