Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage among young people in Estonia has expanded significantly in recent years. Over a four-year period, vaccination coverage in the country has grown more than threefold, demonstrating both the effectiveness of awareness campaigns and increased parental awareness.

HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted viruses in the world, which can cause various forms of cancer, including cervical cancer. Greater vaccination coverage means that the incidence of these diseases in Estonia may decrease in the future. The Health Board has emphasised that the vaccine is most effective when administered before sexual activity begins.

Estonia's national vaccination programme includes the HPV vaccine, and its availability has become easier for both boys and girls. The increase in vaccination rates over the four-year period shows that public attitudes towards vaccination have shifted positively and trust in the healthcare system has strengthened.

From a public health perspective, such developments represent an important step in cancer prevention. Experts hope that the positive trend will continue, and in the coming years Estonia's vaccination coverage will approach the level recommended by the World Health Organization, which will help protect future generations from diseases associated with HPV.
