EestiStatistics Finland released new data on 1 June 2025 on the country's family statistics. According to the data, Finland had 1,477,601 families as of the end of 2025, which is 5,085 more than in 2024.
The most notable trend in the data is the growing share of childless families. This reflects broader demographic changes in Finland, where birth rates have steadily declined in recent decades and younger generations are starting families later or choosing not to have children at all.
Finland's declining birth rate has become an increasingly pressing social issue. Statistics Finland has previously noted that the number of children per family is decreasing and the number of single-person households is growing. This puts pressure on both the pension system and the financing of social services.
