EU allocates one million euros for stormwater management systems in Nõmme Trumm area
Tallinn is building nature-based stormwater management systems in the Trumm area of Nõmme district to reduce flooding risk and improve urban environmental quality. The European Regional Development Fund has allocated nearly one million euros for the project.
EestiTallinn plans to create nature-based stormwater management systems in the Trumm area of Nõmme district to reduce the risk of flooding and make the urban environment more pleasant for residents. Almost one million euros from the European Regional Development Fund has been allocated for the project.
The main objective of natural stormwater management solutions is to direct rainwater in a controlled manner away from residential areas, thus preventing flooding of basements and streets during periods of intense rainfall. Such systems typically use green spaces, permeable ditches and water-retaining soil bodies that allow water to slowly infiltrate the ground.
The project is part of Tallinn's broader efforts to make the city's infrastructure more resilient to the extreme weather events caused by climate change. Nõmme district has previously suffered from flooding following heavy rains, and local residents have been awaiting these improvements.
