Estonia has unveiled a draft national building renovation plan that sets an ambitious target of nearly 9 billion in combined private and public sector investment by 2035, according to the preliminary outline of the strategy.

Under the plan, the Estonian state is projected to allocate around 1.5 billion in support funding to help drive the renovation effort forward. The remaining investment would come from the private sector and other public bodies taking part in the initiative.

The renovation plan covers both residential and non-residential buildings across Estonia, reflecting a broad push to improve the country's building stock in terms of energy efficiency and overall condition. Large-scale renovation programmes are increasingly seen as a key tool for reducing energy consumption and cutting carbon emissions in the built environment.

Estonia, like many European Union member states, faces pressure to accelerate the pace of building renovations as part of its climate and energy commitments. The EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive sets out requirements for member states to progressively upgrade their building stock in the coming decades.

The figures presented in the preliminary plan are still subject to revision as the strategy moves through further consultation and approval stages. Final investment totals and support mechanisms may be adjusted before the plan is formally adopted.
