Estonian man keeps pig alongside dogs and ducks: 'No bad behaviour at all'

Henri Jaska, an Estonian pet owner, has built an unusual animal family at home — two German shepherds, a team of ducks brought in to fight Spanish slugs, and a pig kept purely for joy. The pig has surprised its owner with its gentle and sociable nature.

An Estonian man named Henri Jaska has assembled quite the unusual household of animals, combining practicality with passion in a way that has caught the attention of locals. Jaska had long lived happily with two German shepherds before deciding to expand his animal family in unexpected directions.

The ducks were added with a specific purpose in mind: to combat an invasion of Spanish slugs, which have become a persistent problem for many garden owners in Estonia. The birds have proven effective allies in keeping the slug population under control.

But it was the pig that Jaska acquired simply for the love of it. According to him, the animal has shown none of the stubborn or messy behaviour one might associate with the species. Instead, the pig has turned out to be gentle and well-mannered — with one notable quirk.

"There's no bad behaviour from her whatsoever," Jaska has said of his pig, adding that she does have a fondness for eating and, interestingly, for bossing the dogs around. Despite the size difference, the pig apparently has no trouble asserting herself among the German shepherds.

The story reflects a broader trend in Estonia of people keeping non-traditional animals as companions, blending rural practicality — such as using ducks for pest control — with the simple joy of animal companionship.
