Elron quietly removes cheap extra ticket for children without notice

For years, passengers could buy an extra ticket for children in Elron's first class for just one euro, but this discount disappeared in May with barely any announcement. The company did not inform the public via social media, and only posted a brief notice on its website several days after the change took effect.

Estonia's rail operator Elron has quietly scrapped the popular one-euro extra ticket that allowed parents travelling in first class to purchase an affordable additional seat for their young children. The change came into effect in May, but the public was not notified in advance.

Neither Elron's social media channels nor its other usual communication channels announced the change. The only notification was a small news item on Elron's own website, which appeared only days after the change had already taken effect.

This approach has caused frustration among passengers who had grown accustomed to planning train journeys with children using the affordable option. The one-euro extra ticket service, which had been in place for years, was an important convenience for families, especially in first class where additional comfort comes at a premium.

Elron's decision raises questions about the company's communication practices – changes that affect passengers' everyday planning and budgets deserve more than quiet removal from a website. More transparent and timely notification would have given families a chance to prepare for the change.
