Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur visited Narva town hall on Tuesday, where he met with residents and answered their questions. One of the key topics that emerged was the possible deployment of nuclear weapons on Estonian territory.

Pevkur assured Narva residents that Estonia has not received any proposal to deploy nuclear weapons in the country. The minister stressed that such a matter is not currently under discussion.

During the meeting, the minister announced that construction of a military barracks in the Narva area will commence this year. According to an optimistic scenario, the barracks could be completed by early next year, although construction may also take longer.

The Narva military barracks is part of Estonia's plan to strengthen its defence capacity in the border region. The construction of a frontier barracks is strategically important, given the situation on Estonia's eastern border and NATO security commitments.
