Clairvoyant Maila Paalmäe has made a shocking public statement, claiming that the Estonian popular television show "The Clairvoyants' Trial by Fire" was not a fair competition, but a staged performance where the winner was predetermined.

According to Paalmäe, much happened behind the cameras that television viewers never found out about. She points to unequal treatment, behind-the-scenes agreements, and situations where her abilities were deliberately sabotaged in her view. "The viewers had no idea what was actually happening," said Paalmäe.

Producer Urmas E Liiv associated with the show firmly rejects the allegations. Liiv claims that he doesn't remember a participant by that name at all and casts doubt on the truthfulness of Paalmäe's claims. The contradiction between the two parties is complete — on one side serious accusations, on the other denial and a memory gap.

The question of the credibility of clairvoyant shows more broadly has now moved to the centre of public debate. Critics have long argued that such shows are entertainment by nature, not scientifically controlled experiments. Paalmäe's statement provides new material for these views.
